On bonfire night I caught up with friends at a Fireworks night at Silverstone race track, a chance to enjoy the atmosphere and see dear friends and their little ones. Dave and Helen had been looking for a Northamptonshire family photographer for a large family session and Helen’s sister recommended me after doing a session with her grand daughter and niece in the woods in the Spring. They asked if I could photograph their family at their home before Christmas. Three generations of the family gathered from different parts of the country, I think it’s so important to make time to create special memories and it was a joy to go and see them all and enjoy a bacon sarnie and glass of red afterwards. The little ones were hesitant to start with, but by the end of the session they carried bags to my car and asked when they could come and stay! Ideally we would have gone to the park, where I can work in a more natural style – alas the weather was grey and we stayed in the warm. I revisited them on boxing day for a traditional family and friends get together and was pleased to see the images made into a calendar for Dave’s parents.

I encourage the children to be themselves and to wear their favourite clothes and bring along their favourite toy/cuddly, this allows their personalities to shine through.
